Will you join us in calling on the Government of Romania and the European Commission to act and ensure bears are protected in Europe and draconian laws that allow the unlimited hunting of bears are not passed. Please sign your name to:
- Urgently request the Romanian government to reject the proposal by the Senate to amend the Hunting Law no. 407/2006 that will mean unlimited numbers of bears can be hunted.
- Request Romania uphold European Directives and protect bears and large carnivores.
- Request Romanian government to release official statistics and put forward scientific data on bears in Romania that would contribute to passing new laws.
- Request the European Commission to react on this issue and release its position on Romania’s non-compliance with EU Directives.
It is unclear why this proposal includes the drastic measure of allowing the unlimited killing of bears. Without a detailed and independent scientific assessment of the bear population in Romania such measures could have catastrophic consequences for the wild population and instigate a bear massacre. It is not too late for the Romanian bears if the Romanian Chamber of Deputies rejects the proposal. Please act now by adding your name to this petition and sharing it within your own networks.
