Demand resignation of the director of the BFSA

On February 20, 2018, about 130 wild birds of various species, including rare ones, were arrested on entry to Bulgaria at Vidin border checkpoint due to lack of transport documents. By Decree of Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters – the city of Montana, Bulgaria, the birds were housed in the zoo in Sofia (as it is also a rescue center for wild animals) in order to determine their species composition due to reasonable doubts that some of them are from protected species. On February 26, inspectors from the Regional Directorate of Food Safety - Sofia illegally took the birds and killed them in a farm in a village 50 km away from the capital Sofia. The agency did not comply with a ruling by the Administrative Court suspending the order of killing. To justify the actions of their employees, the agency presented positive aviary flu samples from two of the killed birds whose picking, processing and disclosure posed serious manipulation problems.

Please demand that the Minister of Agriculture, Foods, and Forestry of Bulgaria Mr. Roumen Porozhanov releases the director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency from his position.
