Every year, around 10 million Australian lambs endure the painful and outdated practice of live lamb cutting (mulesing).
At just 2–12 weeks old, lambs are forcibly restrained on their backs while strips of skin are cut away from their backside, often without adequate pain relief. This causes intense pain, fear, and distress, and can even lead to death, further worsening Australia’s already high lamb mortality rate.
This suffering is unnecessary. Humane alternatives exist, including breeding plain bodied sheep resistant to flystrike. Thousands of Aussie wool producers are already doing this – eliminating the need for live lamb cutting altogether.
It’s time to end live lamb cutting for good.
By signing, you are standing up for lambs and demanding the Australian Government introduces legislation to end this cruel practice, whilst also urging fashion brands to commit to wool that is free from live lamb cutting.
